1 Corinthians 8-9 could be spoken of as the ‘Wise and the Weak’. Actually, the argument here extends through Chapter 10.
Argument 1: What is True Wisdom (1 Cor. 1:17-4:21)
Argument 2: The Need for Holiness (1 Cor. 5:1-6:20)
Argument 3: The Place of Marriage (1 Cor. 7:1-40)
So, now we come to the fourth discourse, which could be described as ‘Fighting over Food’. (1 Cor. 8:1-11:1)
There are at least four parts to this section: the problem of dining in temples, Paul’s demonstration of self-giving service, the real danger of idol cults, and meat served in homes. Then, chapter 11, of course, speaks of the Lord’s Supper and gives instructions for it.
